What is the recommended age for kids eating Kidfresh meals?

We craft our meals with the needs of kids in mind*. And we do so with the recommendations of our registered dietitian to help meet the MyPlate Food Group guidelines for those age groups. Of course, tweens, teens, and adults looking for help getting a little extra veggie boost are also welcome to enjoy our meals, too.

*Every child has individual needs, so it’s best to consult with a pediatrician or dietitian.

here.

Is Kidfresh appropriate for adults?

Absolutely. Most Americans—like nearly 90%* of us—are not getting enough veggies in their diet. Our meals are a great way to provide a little boost for all ages. Kids and adults have different needs—you can check on yours here.

Does Kidfresh’s packaging contain BPA?

We believe that what we put into our foods matters just as much as what we choose to leave out. We do not allow the use of BPA in any of our packaging, as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics.¹

BPA stands for Bisphenol A, a chemical that has been used to make plastics and resins since the 1950s. It is found in some food and beverage packaging, and studies have shown that it leaches into the environment, including the foods and beverages we consume. While the Food and Drug Administration has not found any conclusive evidence to link low levels in what we consume to specific health concerns, they continue to monitor the research.²

Other organizations, like the American Academy of Pediatrics and the European Environment Agency, believe that exposure to BPA could have potential health risks at certain levels. And to us, that sounds like more than enough reason to leave it out of our packaging—and out of our kids’ lives.

Will my kid taste the veggies in Kidfresh meals?

We know the best ingredients only matter if they get eaten. While a handful of our dishes are clearly made with vegetables, like the tomatoes in our Spaghetti Loops, most of our meals cleverly disguise veggies among other wholesome ingredients. The only thing your kids will taste is deliciousness.

How much vegetables are in a serving of Kidfresh meals?

We know that kids (and adults) find it challenging to get the recommended number of veggies each day. Kidfresh meals help make it possible by putting veggies in every bite*—with some of our meals providing as much as a half a cup of veggies per serving.

*Veggies in every bite can mean different things for each meal. Some bites lead to ½ cup of veggies per meal whereas others are a bit of veggies with other ingredients.

Does Kidfresh allow animal-based ingredients raised with the use of growth hormones, rBST or antibiotics?

All our dairy and meat ingredients are free of growth hormone, rBST*, and antibiotics—because we care just as much about what goes into our foods as what we choose to leave out.

*No significant difference has been shown between milk derived from rBST and non-rBST-treated cows.

Why should using chicken raised without antibiotics matter to me?

We care just as much about what goes into our foods as what we choose to leave out. That’s why all our poultry and meat come from animals raised without antibiotics, as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

To learn more about the use of antibiotics in the raising of farm animals and steps being taken to limit this use, read here.

How does Kidfresh support growing bodies?

Kids need essential nutrition to support their growing bodies and brains. Essential nutrition refers to nutrients that cannot be made in the body and therefore must be consumed in what we eat and drink. Our meals provide some of that essential nutrition through a variety of whole and wholesome ingredients, like fiber, protein, vitamins, and minerals. Each Kidfresh meal is as unique as the nutrition it provides. Check out the Nutritionally Notable section for each of our meals to see where to find a good source of fiber, calcium, vitamin A and C, iron, and potassium, in addition to providing 9-14g protein per serving.

What is DHA omega-3 and why is it important for kids?

Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) helps support the developing brain, nervous system, and vision, especially in infants and children. DHA is essential in diets because it cannot be made in the body and must be obtained through the foods we eat. DHA supports normal brain development through the consumption of 250mg DHA omega-3 per day. Our fuss-free-finger-food Fish Sticks provide 90mg DHA omega-3 per serving.

Do Kidfresh foods contain whole grains?

We use whole grains in the breading for our nuggets and sticks meals, which add 8-14g whole grains per serving. Luckily, your kids will only notice how crispy and delicious they taste.

Why is frozen better?

Freezing is actually one of the best ways to preserve nutrients and flavor while extending shelf life. And that’s why we freeze our meals immediately after being cooked—so all that good stuff stays good until you’re ready to serve it up.

The American Frozen Food Institute provides great information on the benefits of freezing foods to lock in nutrition. Find more information, visit this link.

What’s the benefit of using wild-caught fish?

We use wild-caught Alaskan Pollock fillets because we believe in using only the best ingredients.¹ “Wild-caught” refers to fish that come from open waters rather than from a fish farm.²
